Evaluation Q2 - How does your media product represent particular social groups?
We confronted to stereotypes as it was the easiest way for the audience to identify with the character without having to explain it verbally to them. This subtle hint allowed the audience to make their own mind up about what stereotypical character Gordon is. We tried to make the actor be as realistic looking to our ideal image of Gordon as possible by the mise en scene but also his walk. Whilst filming the scene from the car to the building we wanted Gordon to have a certain type of attitude to his walk, to suggest a quirky and more confident Gordon compared to the younger Gordon.

Evaluation Q1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
The Title of the Film was chosen to be done as stop motion, although this technique is not normally seen in the "real media", it was seen in Napoleon Dynamite. We did this because as shown in the first three screen shots it is a look back at what his child hood was like. The colours represent a young feel to the movie, helping it to keep upbeat.
Our setting was mainly set outside with the character walking alone to represent that although grown up, he is still not popular. However he seems to be successful, represented by the car and secretary working for him. A real media example is Forrest Gump as he is sitting oustide whilst the opening sequence is shown.
The costumes shows him to be successful from screen shot 4-9, we chose this so the audience could compare past and present Gordon. In most films each costume represents the individual character to show age, personality and class within society giving the audience information to help identify with the character.
Camera work and Editing - we wanted to have control over what the audience focuses on, so we used a tripod for steady shots but also changed the angles and used a variety of shots for diversity keeping the audience interested and help show the characters reactions to the situation.
Font and Style - The font used throughout the title sequence was kept the same as it was edited into the shot. However we tried to combine this font and style with the titles we manually put into the shot. We kept the titles very simple and clear.
Story/Narrative - Throughout the opening titles the narrative gives the main background information to viewers, of the typical story line of a drama/comedy. For example the shots of Heather Clancy who would appear later in the film. Although there are not many hints of humour this comes later with in the film as his school life was not a happy time for him.
Genre - We tried to make the genre evident through the use of the narrative and music. We found that the use of a voice - over was very typical of the drama/comedy genre. The use of the narrative and the scene of young Gordon being hit in the face with a rugby ball shows the drama. The comedy is seen later in the film, however we get the feeling by Gordon dropping his papers that he is clumsy which could be seen as comedy later in the film.
Characters - Our main character is focused on throughout the opening scene, his appearance only changes due to age, however we still know he is the main character because of the narration. The use of the scene with younger Gordon is to see the contrast between what he once was and what he has become, which is very successful. We wanted the audience to feel sympathy for him but also to see his determined character of becoming a successful man.
Special FX - We used a fade to black effect to show the separation in time, between younger and older Gordon. This was just to break the filming so the audience could adjust to the jump in time. We also used a cross dissolve in the playground scene to also show the jump in time. In grid shot eight, we used a stop motion effect, although it is not very smoothly put together, it creates a childish effect to the film, which is relevant considering its a school reunion.

Recommended improvements
These are the recommended improvements to our film which we plan on doing.
· The name of
your production company needs to be on screen about 2 seconds
longer.
· Capital and
lower case letters need to be consistent across your titles – some are half and
half.
· Sound after
your title appears, there is none.
· Title card
needs to be on for longer – I will let you have it at the end of the two minutes
because of how your build it up.

Changes made to Rough Edit
Once we recieved feedback we made the following changes,
- Our titles were moving to fast and were not big enough for the audience to see them properly so we decided to slow them down and make them larger.
- We had numerous shots of Gordon walking up the staircase which we decided to cut. This shortened the sequence as we found it was not necessary in the storyline.
- The narration was read at a steady speed however our playground scene was still to long, so we decided to change the speed at which is played to fit the narration better.
- Our film is an independent British Indie film so we thought that Studiocanal would suit the feel of the film better than Eon Productions, which is known for producing James Bond.
- We decided to fade the music out instead of cutting it off as it made it less noticable to the audience.

The Process of Editing
We have finished filming and now have started editing our film. During the editing we found make the film link smoothly from one shot into another a challenge, this was especially important as we wanted a shot reverse shot for the conversation between Gordon and the secretary. This was challenging due to not fully understanding how to work the editing programme.
